Rosie Perez is a Puerto Rican
comedian and activist, who is able to engage people with her larger than life
personality but also get her point across. With her mother passing of AIDS-related
complications in 1999, Perez has been a HIV/AIDS activist. President Barack
Obama appointed her to The Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, she was
sworn in on February 2, 2010. Perez also serves as the chair of the artistic
board for Urban Arts Partnership, a New York City arts education nonprofit that
uses arts integrated education programs to close the achievement gap. She is
also a full supporter of the DREAM Act, believing every child should be offered
an education in this country.
